The story of any war is an epic, none more so than World War II. However, any war is also a constellation of smaller stories that are often overshadowed by the sheer magnitude of the big battles. Many times those small stories impact not only the larger conflict, but they can also have more profound effects on the very way in which warfare is conducted long afterward.
The tale of the 1st Air Commando Group and their partnership with the Brits to sustain operations behind Japanese lines in one of the most challenging theaters of the war is one of the stories that changed the fundamental nature and role of air power.
